Temporary structures firm becomes a Certified B Corporation™️, underlining its commitment to sustainability

Sussex-based Trafalgar Marquees is delighted to have received B Corp Certification after a year-long application process. Founded in 2011, the award-winning company offers flexible, rapid deployment of high-quality, affordable temporary structures. Their highly experienced team has a proven track record of working with clients across Sussex, Surrey, London, and the rest of the UK for high-profile clients, including the BBC, Berkley Homes Group, Channel 4, Clifford Chance, Denbies Vineyard, London South East Colleges and University of Arts London.

To become a Certified B Corp, companies must undergo a rigorous assessment process, demonstrating their high social and environmental performance standards.

James Morris, Founder and Managing Director of Trafalgar Marquees said, “I am incredibly proud that Trafalgar Marquees is now B Corp Certified. Our certification reaffirms our commitment to social and environmental responsibility and is just one step on our sustainability journey.

Our journey began in 2020. COVID-19 was a catalyst for change that brought wellbeing to the forefront of our organisation. Working in events is a demanding business. It’s highly sociable and great fun, but the long, antisocial hours can also take their toll on physical and mental health.

Working in partnership with mental health charity Oakleaf, we designed and introduced a multi-layered wellbeing programme, including regular wellbeing workshops. We offer all employees free individual counselling and run regular employee wellbeing surveys. Recently, we have enhanced our benefits package, introducing life insurance, a health care cash plan, and an employee assistance programme. Providing high-quality service is what sets us apart from our competitors, so our people have to be at the heart of everything we do. Our focus on staff health and wellbeing has been a major factor in our B Corp assessment.

In 2022, we took action on some of the basics in our business, switching to LED light bulbs, banning single-use bottles after giving everyone a reusable water bottle and getting our first electric vehicle pool car. In 2023, we have taken this further, moving the company pension to a sustainable fund and committing to reducing our work with controversial industries. Next, we will focus on our supply chain, delving deeper into the practices of the suppliers we choose to use. We are also investigating how to store and conserve water better and reduce the need to buy equipment or repair more.

Becoming a Certified B Corporation demonstrates our commitment to people and the planet and our belief that businesses can be a force for good in society. “
