Commuters travelling through Banbury could save nearly £1,000 a year on parking costs, thanks to a new car park developed close to the station on Higham Way.
The car park, opened by E5 Group in partnership with Birmingham-based property company Gallan Group, charges £5 per day — compared to £9.30 per day at the APCOA-operated Banbury Station East Car Park, just 150 metres away.
The site was acquired by E5 Working, the commercial property division of E5 Group, as part of its plans to invest in the Banbury area.
While those longer-term plans develop, E5 has worked with Gallan Group to bring the site into use as a meanwhile car park, ensuring local commuters have access to affordable parking close to the station.
Kevin Stevens, president of E5 Group, said: “Commuters across the country are under real financial pressure and parking costs are a significant part of that daily burden. At nearly £10 a day, the cost of leaving your car near Banbury station has become genuinely punishing for regular travellers. We wanted to do something practical about that.
“This site was always part of our longer-term investment plans for the Banbury area and, while that work progresses, it made complete sense to open it up and give commuters a much more affordable option. That’s what responsible development looks like to us — making sure that wherever we invest, the local community benefits.”
The new car park comes after a difficult year for Banbury commuters, who faced significant disruption to parking at the station throughout 2025. The west car park was closed from June 2025 as part of improvement works carried out by Oxfordshire County Council and Chiltern Railways, leaving commuters reliant on the east side multi-storey for much of the year. The west car park did not reopen until just before the Christmas travel period.

“The last thing people need on top of that is to be paying close to £10 a day just to leave their car. Gallan Group has considerable experience in property and car park operations and when the opportunity arose to work with E5 on this, it was an easy decision. When the cost of travel is already high, we’re able to offer something that makes a real, everyday difference to people’s pockets.”
