The British Society for Research on Ageing’s Annual Conference Will Spotlight Cutting-Edge Science in Healthy Ageing
The British Society for Research on Ageing (BSRA) is proud to announce its 2025 Annual Conference is taking place in Manchester this September.
As a highlight of the event, Professor Stuart Phillips — an internationally recognised authority in the field of muscle metabolism and nutrition — will deliver the only keynote lecture of the ASM that is specifically aimed at the public, titled “Dietary Protein in Optimal Ageing – The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth”.

A much sought-after speaker, Phillips’ work has directly influenced international dietary guidelines and public health recommendations on protein intake, especially in older adults. His pioneering research explores the role of dietary protein, resistance training, and nutrition in healthy ageing, muscle maintenance, and disease prevention.
In this engaging and thought-provoking session, Professor Phillips will explore the latest evidence on the role of dietary protein in supporting healthy ageing. He comments:
“I am really excited to bring my research and findings to Manchester this September. I will be discussing a range of topics from muscle maintenance to metabolic health, separating fact from fiction and addressing one of the most talked-about topics in nutrition and ageing science. I hope to provide insights into one of the most asked questions I receive: What is the secret to ageing well?”
David Weinkove, Chair of the BSRA, adds: “We are thrilled to welcome Professor Phillips to the charity’s Annual Scientific Meeting. His work has reshaped how we understand nutrition and ageing and this lecture promises to be not only scientifically robust but also accessible and highly relevant to the public.
“It is guaranteed to provoke conversations and change habits amongst those attending as this event is about empowering people to make informed decisions that support long-term health.”
The BSRA 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting will bring together researchers from across the UK and beyond to share insights into the biology of ageing and strategies to extend healthy lifespan. The public lecture is open to all and will feature a Q&A with Prof. Phillips with attendees, offering a rare opportunity for the general public to have their burning questions answered directly from one of the world’s leading researchers in the field.
