Book donation by Bellway and Anwyl Homes for local children’s ward

To coincide with World Book Day (Thursday 2 March) Bellway and Anwyl Homes have teamed up to donate £1000 to a community initiative in Wrexham, which will see hundreds of brand new books and jigsaws arrive at the Children’s Ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Aimie Hemmings, who lives in Kings Mills, is a local independent Usborne Partner, and as such, is able to run Community Book Pledges, raising money for local schools and charities.

Having spent time on the children’s ward in Wrexham with her two young boys, Alfie (5) and Aaron (2), Aimie wanted to ensure other children had lots of nice new books and jigsaws to enjoy during their stay.

She contacted Bellway who are currently building three and four bedroom homes at Fern Meadow on Straight Mile in Llay, just a short drive from her place of work; Rhosddu Primary School.

Bellway were delighted to get involved and teamed up with Anwyl Homes, building at the neighbouring Maes-y-Rhedyn development, to help out too, ensuring the £1000 target was met.

Aimie says: “After spending time on the children’s ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital with my boys where we were so well looked after, I wanted to give a little something back.  I made contact with Bellway asking for a donation, explaining my intention to donate books and jigsaws.

“I was thrilled to hear that both Bellway and Anwyl Homes were happy to donate, and they offered £1000 between them.  Having hit my target, Usborne will now top it up by 60% which means I can deliver £1600 worth of items to the ward, which is just wonderful news.”

Jenny Bell, sales director at Bellway, adds: “Supporting the local community where we build is incredibly important and we loved what Aimie had planned.  Anwyl Homes also has a development next door to Fern Meadow so we asked them to get involved too, as it was a such a lovely initiative. And just in time for World Book Day too!”

Graeme Gibb, sales director at Anwyl Homes, says: “A good book can bring so much joy, which makes the Community Book Pledge a really important initiative.  When we heard about Aimie’s fundraising for Wrexham Maelor Children’s Ward, we knew we had to help out too.”

Aimie has already spoken to the hospital and they are delighted that they will soon be receiving a delivery of lots more books and jigsaws for the children.

Aimie concludes: “I plan to deliver the books and jigsaws personally in March and will include a range of authors to suit all age groups, plus jigsaws with an array of themes.  I am so grateful to Bellway and Anwyl Homes for their support, helping me give back to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.”

Prices at Fern Meadow start from £269,995.  For further information, or to book an appointment to view the show homes, please contact Bellway on 01978 884912.

Anwyl Homes’ Maes y Rhedyn development provides a collection of three and four bedroom homes, with prices starting from £234,995.  For further information, please call 01978 438148.
