BFI launches new blogging platform as part of its Screen Culture 2033 strategy

The British Film Institute (BFI), the UK’s lead organisation for film, television and the moving image, has been working with employee-owned Leeds-based digital agency, dxw, on the design, build and hosting of its new blogging platform.

To support the BFI’s recently launched ten-year strategy Screen Culture 2033 and its commitment to being digital-first, the new blogging platform provides an open and transparent window into its delivery. The strategy details how the organisation, a cultural charity, will advance its knowledge, collections, programmes, National Lottery distribution and industry leadership to build a diverse UK screen culture that benefits all of society.

Neil Williams, Executive Director of Technology and Transformation at the BFI, said: “Our people are our greatest strength. BFI staff are generous and enthusiastic subject matter experts, who actively want to connect their work with a wider community. We think a blog is the perfect platform for the people who work at BFI to share their knowledge and passion with BFI audiences. Giving us the opportunity to tell our stories, start conversations and bring people and communities closer together.”

Developed by dxw, the self-contained blog has been built on the same platform the Government Digital Service has been using since 2013 to host blogs across government. For the blog’s administrators the platform is easy-to-use and streamlines the content management process, helping to put the needs of users first and promote accessibility. The platform will provide the BFI with an opportunity to engage its audiences across the UK.

Catheryne Littlejohns, Head of Digital Production & Transformation at the BFI explains: “As our strategy evolves, the blog will provide a way for the BFI’s key stakeholders to share their experiences throughout the delivery of the ten-year strategy. It felt right for us to use an existing blogging platform that is robust and underpinned by great design, and our digital team has benefitted from dxw’s expertise and experience throughout the project.”

Launched alongside Screen Culture 2033, the blog is currently live and regular updates and posts will commence on the platform this month.

Alex Farley, Head of GovPress at dxw, comments: “Whether you watch TV or film or play video games, we all experience screen culture in our daily lives and we’re excited to be working with the BFI as it embarks on its new 10-year strategy. At the centre of this project is an innovative, diverse and digital organisation with creative storytelling at its heart. Working with the BFI digital team we have created a space where the staff and contributors can think freely and share their passion for moving image generously with BFI audiences.”
