Award-winning interior designer Mairead Turner is expanding her business and growing her team as demand rises for commercial, heritage and high-end residential design projects across Wales and the UK.
The founder of Mairead & Co Interiors has established a new studio in Bangor, North Wales, creating a larger base for the business as it takes on an increasing number of commercial commissions, conservation-led schemes and large-scale refurbishment projects.
Originally from Yorkshire, Mairead launched the company in 2019 and has built a reputation for delivering bold, characterful interiors for hospitality venues, heritage organisations, luxury holiday accommodation and private clients.
The move from Penmon on Anglesey to a substantial Victorian property in Bangor marks the next phase of growth for the business.
The six-bedroom building is already attracting attention beyond the design sector, with a French fashion brand set to use the property for photography and video content later this year.
“We had been waiting for the right property and when this one came along, I knew it was the one – it’s epic,” said Mairead.
“It’s an incredible Victorian building with so much character and the studio space is amazing. It inspires me every day and gives us room to grow as a business.”
Mairead is now joined at the studio by studio manager Lauren Morgan-Clarke and brand and communications manager Natalie Bond, strengthening the company’s ability to deliver multiple projects simultaneously as its client base continues to expand.
Originally from Yorkshire, she said the relocation was driven by a desire to create a more accessible hub for clients, collaborators and contractors working across the region and beyond.
“Being in Bangor makes it easier for us to travel across North Wales and beyond, and it’s easier for clients to come and visit us too,” she said.
While residential projects remain an important part of the business, Mairead & Co Interiors is seeing significant growth in commercial, heritage and conservation-led work.
Among its recent commissions is the internal and external redesign of Caffi Meinir at Nant Gwrtheyrn on the Llŷn Peninsula. The company is also leading a major workplace transformation for Village Dairy, the award-winning Llaeth y Llan yoghurt producer based in Llannefydd, redesigning reception and boardroom facilities to create more engaging and inspiring spaces for staff and visitors.
“We’re seeing growing interest from businesses that want to create environments people genuinely enjoy working in,” said Mairead.
“With more people returning to offices and shared workspaces, there is a real focus on creating inspiring, welcoming environments that reflect a company’s culture and values.”
Alongside commercial commissions, the studio continues to work on projects across the UK, including luxury holiday accommodation developments, private homes and the restoration of historic buildings.
“I love working with listed buildings and heritage organisations,” she said.
“Protecting the character and history of these places while finding new ways for people to enjoy them is incredibly rewarding. Collaboration is such an important part of that process.”
