As the world celebrates World Kindness Day on November 13, the u3a movement is highlighting how kindness, connection and lifelong learning can transform lives, especially in later life.
u3a is open to people no longer in full-time work, offering opportunities to learn new skills, make friends and share interests in a welcoming, supportive community. Across the UK, over 400,000 u3a members come together to enjoy classes, walks, book clubs, language groups, and creative projects, all run by members, for members.
“Kindness is at the heart of what we do,” said Iain Cassidy, CEO of u3a. “Joining u3a isn’t just about learning something new, it’s about belonging. Members support one another, share experiences, and find joy in connection. On World Kindness Day, we celebrate the simple acts of friendship that make such a difference.”
World Kindness Day encourages people everywhere to promote kindness through compassion, empathy and community spirit, values that perfectly reflect the u3a ethos.
Joining u3a can help combat loneliness, improve wellbeing and keep minds active. Members often say they feel more connected, confident and fulfilled through their involvement.
So this World Kindness Day, why not show kindness to yourself and others, by joining your local u3a and becoming part of a community that learns, laughs and grows together.
