Ecommpay has introduced a QR Code Payment solution that allows merchants to collect variable one-off payments, such as tips and donations, through a static QR code displayed on signs, receipts, or web pages. This service enables payments without the need for cash or card machines, offering flexibility for small businesses and charities to accept payments easily. The QR code can be customised and managed directly from the Ecommpay dashboard, providing a consistent and branded payment experience for customers.

EDITORIAL INSIGHT: Context, industry insight and market perspectives of this news story

Ecommpay’s introduction of static QR code payments arrives as businesses and charities continue to adapt to a steady decline in cash use for everyday transactions. With tipping, donations, and small-scale purchases increasingly reliant on digital alternatives, the ability to generate a reusable QR code for flexible, one-off payments may help address a practical gap for merchants, service staff, and micro-operators who often lack access to traditional point-of-sale infrastructure.

For merchants and charities, the direct creation and management of QR codes through an online dashboard streamlines digital payment acceptance without the need for technical integration or additional hardware. This approach is likely to appeal to small businesses, event organisers, and local sellers seeking a low-friction route to digital payments, as well as to larger organisations aiming to capture incidental payments in non-traditional settings. The option for payers to select or enter an amount adds further convenience for customer-driven transactions such as tips or voluntary contributions.

Static QR code payment link makes tips, donations and one-off digital payments as quick and simple as cash

Enabling merchants to collect variable one-off payments such as tips and donations, inclusive global payments platform, Ecommpay, has launched QR Code Payment. The new solution provides a single static QR code which merchants can display anywhere, whether on a printed sign, a receipt, or a web page. Payment amounts can be preselected or set by the consumer, and payment can be made using any available method, for significant flexibility.

Critically, the QR code is created, customised and published directly from the Ecommpay dashboard without development or integration work or coding required. And delivered on a fully merchant-branded Hosted Payment Page, the payment journey provides the customer with a consistent and trustworthy experience whether they are leaving a tip in a restaurant, donating to charity or paying a micro-merchant.

“We have built QR Code Payments to make it quick and simple to send one-off payments – the digital equivalent to leaving a £5 note tucked under a glass when you leave the table or throwing a few coins into a collection bucket as it passes,” commented Artus Zaremba, Head of Payment Solutions, Ecommpay. “Fewer customers carry cash today, so servers and charities can miss out even if someone wants to leave a tip or make a donation. With QR Code Payments, merchants and charities can display a static QR code to help capture these payments.

“This latest enhancement also provides a simple solution for small or micro-businesses to accept payments without using a card machine – for example, pay-as-you-go bootcamp sessions in the local park, or selling goods at a farmers’ market or school fair. The merchant can choose whether they or the customer sets the amount and choose which payment methods are made available. They also set the look and feel of the payment page, ensuring they are in full control, and customers get the best experience, and the same QR code can be used indefinitely, until deactivated by the merchant.”

Key features
