British paint brand Victory Colours has named Pepper Tree Green as its Colour of the Year for 2027, predicting the rich, grounding shade will come into its own as homeowners embrace deeper, more characterful interiors.
Taken from Victory Colours’ existing palette, Pepper Tree Green is a sophisticated dark green that balances drama with a strong connection to the natural world. Deep without feeling overpowering, the shade brings warmth and depth to a room while retaining the calming qualities that have made green such an enduring favourite in British homes.
In 2027, Victory Colours believes homeowners will move further away from the cooler, paler and more uniform interiors that have dominated in recent years. Instead, decorating choices will become warmer and more expressive, with earthy colours, natural materials and richer tones helping homes feel personal, comfortable and lived in. And while soft sages have become a familiar alternative to neutrals, Victory Colours expects to see greens with greater depth and confidence take centre stage. Pepper Tree Green delivers that without becoming harsh or difficult to live with, making it a natural progression for homeowners ready to introduce stronger colour.
Victoria Yardley, Co-Founder of Victory Colours, said: “We chose Pepper Tree Green because it captures exactly how we think people will want their homes to feel in 2027. There is a real desire for rooms that feel grounded, reassuring and connected to nature, but at the same time we are becoming more confident with colour. Pepper Tree has that wonderful balance, it makes an impact, but it also feels incredibly comforting.”
Its versatility was another important factor in the decision. Pepper Tree Green can create an enveloping backdrop across all four walls in living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms, while in kitchens and hallways it provides enough depth to give the space a clear sense of identity. What’s more, its complex pigments also respond to changing natural light, allowing the colour to take on subtly different characteristics throughout the day.
Victoria added: “For a long time, many of us played quite safe with our walls and added personality through furniture and accessories. That is changing. People are realising that the wall colour itself can completely transform the atmosphere of a room. Pepper Tree is bold enough to create that transformation, but because green is so familiar from the landscape around us, it never feels alien or intimidating.”
The colour also works particularly well alongside the materials expected to shape increasingly tactile interiors, including natural timber, stone, linen and aged metals. For a softer scheme, Victory Colours recommends pairing Pepper Tree Green with warm off-whites, blush pinks and muted rose tones, while crisp white woodwork provides a sharper, more traditional contrast. For homeowners who are not ready to commit to an entirely dark green room, Pepper Tree Green can be introduced on cabinetry, panelling, alcoves or painted furniture. Those looking for a more immersive effect can carry the shade across walls and woodwork, allowing the depth of the green to create a cocooning, considered finish.
Pepper Tree Green is part of the existing Victory Colours collection and is available in the British brand’s water-based, ultra-low-VOC paint formulation. Made in Britain, Victory Colours paints are vegan and designed to combine rich colour with a durable, washable finish. Pepper Tree Green is available now from Victory Colours, priced at £54 for 2.5-litres of matt emulsion.
