Timetastic has launched their employee management software right on time, according to the first edition of the Employment Rights Search Index, a comprehensive data report tracking UK employer response to the Employment Rights Act 2025. The findings reveal a direct, undeniable correlation between government legislative milestones and a sudden, sustained spike in demand for rota and employee management software.
The report, compiled by Adrian Borowski, acting Senior Marketing Lead at Timetastic, analyzes 61 months of Google Trends data. It demonstrates that after four years of stagnant demand, search interest in scheduling and compliance tools stepped upwards precisely alongside the Act’s progression through Parliament.
Key Findings from the Index:
-
The Royal Assent Spike: Between September 2021 and November 2025, relative search interest in “employee management software” frequently registered at zero. Following Royal Assent on December 18, 2025, the index jumped 42 points.
-
The Compliance Peak: Search demand reached its five-year maximum of 100 in May 2026, the first full month following the April commencement of the holiday records duty and the establishment of the Fair Work Agency.
-
The Rota Planning Shift: Search interest in “rota software” reached a distinct five-year high in August 2026, aligning perfectly with the close of the government consultation on ending zero-hours contracts and mandating guaranteed shift notice.
“The data indicates a fundamental shift in how UK businesses view scheduling,” said Adrian Borowski. “The standard consensus treated rota planning as a productivity hack. The search trends show it is now viewed as a legal ledger. With the introduction of unlimited fines for inadequate record-keeping and impending mandates for guaranteed hours, casual flexibility has become a statutory liability.”
The Employment Rights Search Index proves that the transition from informal management to audited compliance is already underway across the United Kingdom. Businesses are actively seeking infrastructure to protect their margins from the financial penalties associated with short-notice shift cancellations and undocumented schedule changes.
