EDITORIAL INSIGHT: Context, industry insight and market perspectives of this news story

Montenegro’s update to its regulation on ceramic articles intended for food contact introduces new compliance documentation requirements for businesses operating in this segment. The revised rules bring the country’s approach into line with established practices in other European markets, focusing on the need for clear evidence that products meet lead and cadmium migration limits.

For manufacturers, importers and retailers, the change means a greater emphasis on traceability and testing, with laboratory reports and details of test methods now central to demonstrating compliance. This may require adjustments to quality assurance processes, especially for companies exporting to or sourcing from Montenegro. As regulatory frameworks around food contact materials continue to evolve across the region, keeping up to date with local requirements remains essential for supply chain continuity and market access.
