Press Release

LONDON, UK - March 23, 2026

RedNote, the Chinese lifestyle and social commerce platform, said it had removed 12,863 posts, 98,741 violating comments, 11 topics and 142 user accounts as part of a crackdown on harmful content involving minors, according to a platform notice edited in Shanghai on March 20.

The notice said the campaign targets content and behaviour that may harm minors’ physical or mental wellbeing, including sexualised or suggestive material, vulgar boundary-pushing content, inappropriate interactions with minors, and content that may encourage imitation of rule-breaking behaviour or unhealthy habits.

According to the platform, the clean-up focused on four main areas. These included posts using minors’ images in content containing suggestive or vulgar elements, the misuse of tags related to minors or youth interests to attract inappropriate adult engagement, improper interaction with minors through comments or private messages, and content that could influence minors to imitate misconduct.

RedNote said the campaign was carried out under guidance linked to online protection requirements for minors and formed part of its broader effort to strengthen platform governance. The company said it applies a zero-tolerance approach to content that may endanger minors and would continue targeted enforcement across the service.

The platform said it had taken stricter review and enforcement action against offending users and content in order to cut off the spread of violating material across comments, search and other areas of the platform. It added that enforcement covered both original posts and related interactions that could increase visibility for harmful content.

The disclosure provides a set of public enforcement figures from a major Chinese social platform at a time of continued scrutiny around platform responsibility for the safety of younger users. Social and content platforms in China have faced increasing pressure in recent years to strengthen moderation in areas involving minors, livestreaming, recommendation systems and user interaction.

RedNote said it would maintain a high-pressure enforcement approach and urged users to report suspected violations through the platform’s reporting channels in order to help maintain what it described as a cleaner and healthier online environment.
