Partou Brimstage Village Day Nursery and Pre-school in Wirral has received a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating across all areas of activity.
In her official report, the inspector observes: “Children benefit from robust routines and boundaries that help them to know what is happening next. Golden rules help children to remember how to behave.”
Situated in a converted church, the setting provides high-quality early years care and education to families in Brimstage, Higher Bebington and surrounding areas.
Its ‘home from home’ indoor environment features spacious playrooms which enable children to engage in fun and educational activities including access to an exciting soft play area.
This is complemented by outdoor learning environments suitable for all weathers, and a separate pre-school building where older children have the space to explore and develop independence.
The Ofsted inspector notes that children at Partou Brimstage Village “settle quickly and engage in activities with staff.” She continues: “Staff interactions are positive and are very responsive to children’s needs and interests. Staff narrate children’s play and provide lots of opportunities to talk, sing, read stories and introduce new vocabulary.”
Leadership at the nursery is praised for designing and implementing a new curriculum “which provides a sequenced model of learning to build on children’s skills.”
The consideration given to the wellbeing of team members is judged to be of high quality, delivering significant dividends for the children. “Coaching and mentoring is becoming second nature,” the report explains. “Leaders have a good idea of how they want to improve staff practice to raise standards across the setting. As such, children are benefiting from happier and more enthusiastic staff.”
Support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities also impresses the inspector who says interventions are implemented quickly where gaps are identified. She writes: “Staff make referrals to relevant agencies as soon as possible with support from parents. This helps to ensure that all children get the support they need to make progress.”
And safeguarding arrangements at the setting are deemed to be “effective” based on “an open and positive culture” that “puts children’s interests first.”
In reaching her adjudication, the inspector joined the acting manager on a learning walk of all areas of the nursery, spoke to team members and families, observed the quality of education being provided and conducted a review of key documentation.
