St Albans-based artist Kat Shaw will open her latest feminist art exhibition, UPRISING, on Saturday 8 March 2026 at Trestle Arts Centre, marking International Women’s Day with an immersive event centred on autonomy, empowerment and artistic expression.
The exhibition opens to the public at 10am, with a live show and catwalk element beginning at 5pm.
UPRISING is the third chapter in Shaw’s evolving exhibition series, following Sacred Rage and Unapologetic. The project brings together muses from across the globe, combining painted female forms with live ceremony and participatory elements.
“UPRISING is the commitment never to be small again,” Shaw said. “It’s about women reclaiming their power and their right to take up space.”
A Global Movement Rooted in Hertfordshire
Although Shaw is based in St Albans, UPRISING features women from multiple countries, creating an international expression of collective female experience. The exhibition blends large-scale painted artworks with immersive moments designed to encourage reflection and conversation.
Unlike traditional gallery events, UPRISING incorporates live ceremonial elements. Participants engage in a consent-led experience that centres choice and body autonomy.
“This is about autonomy,” Shaw said. “Women decide how they show up. That freedom can be life changing.”
Art, Expression and Social Media Censorship
Shaw’s work has also faced repeated social media censorship due to artistic nudity within the paintings. As a result, the exhibition raises wider questions around platform restrictions, female representation and artistic freedom.
The tension between creative expression and digital community standards adds further relevance to the exhibition in the context of International Women’s Day.
Impact Beyond the Exhibition
Women who have participated in Shaw’s previous exhibitions often describe transformative personal shifts, including increased confidence and major life decisions rooted in self-worth.
“Women transform after this work,” Shaw said. “They step into lives that feel more aligned with who they truly are.”
Despite growing national and international interest, Shaw continues to keep the project intentional and carefully held.
“I protect the space fiercely,” she added. “It has to feel safe, respectful and supportive.”
