DCU Center hosts a decade of ISW’s cultural showcase, community services, and marketplace
The India Society of Worcester (ISW) celebrated its 37th annual India Day at the DCU Center, marking the 10th consecutive year the venue has hosted the event. The celebration brought together thousands from across New England for a day of music, dance, food, and community engagement.
The festivities opened with an energetic Dhol Tasha Lezim performance by the Symphony initiative, followed by contemporary dance presentations, a dance performance based on the Mahabharata, Kerala’s traditional Chenda Melam, and a performance by the Humrahee senior group. The event concluded with a grand finale of Maharashtra’s Lavani performance.
Mayor Joseph Petty attended as the Chief Guest. Free health screenings were provided by the ISW Health Stop, while the India Youth Group offered popcorn, cotton candy, and mehendi. Informational booths highlighted ISW’s Language and Cultural School, Humrahee, and the Crisis Support Network.
“This celebration is special because of the community that comes together year after year,” said India Day Chair Kamlesh Khilnani. India Day Co-Chair Suchitra Shinde added, “It was a pleasure meeting new people and hearing their ISW stories.” ISW President Jagan Srinivasan noted, “The real success was seeing the community unite to celebrate our heritage.”
The marketplace featured Indian clothing, jewelry, handicrafts, and regional foods. ISW’s Women Empowering Women and Professional and Entrepreneurial Network hosted resume reviews, mock interviews, and professional headshots for attendees.
From cultural showcases to community programs, ISW’s India Day once again reinforced its mission to promote Indian culture, foster unity, and serve the local community.
