GRL Platform Solutions, a global leader in test solutions for connectivity, is pleased to announce the launch of the USB-C® EU (IEC 62680-1-2) Conformance Tester (V-DPWR-EPR), the latest addition to its industry-leading portfolio of USB Power Delivery (USB PD) test solutions. Designed for engineers developing and validating next-generation USB Type-C® products, the V-DPWR-EPR supports up to 240W Extended Power Range (EPR) and the latest USB PD 3.2 specification with Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS), while maintaining backwards compatibility with USB PD 2.0 devices.
As USB Type-C® continues to become the universal connector for high-performance computing, displays, docking stations, chargers and power-intensive devices, manufacturers require more advanced validation tools capable of testing the latest USB Power Delivery features. The V-DPWR-EPR addresses these evolving requirements by functioning as a USB Power Delivery Source, Sink and Dual Role Power (DRP) tester while simultaneously supporting USB 2.0 and USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) data loopback testing in device mode. This enables engineers to verify both power negotiation and data communication under real-world operating conditions using a single compact, desk-friendly platform.
Built for design validation, conformity verification, reliability testing and high-volume manufacturing, the V-DPWR-EPR supports continuous operation at up to 240W with 7.5W VCONN power as both a source and sink. A dedicated voltage sense line helps compensate for IR drop during high-power testing, improving measurement accuracy. The platform also includes an open API that allows seamless integration into existing production environments, enabling customers to automate testing using their preferred software platforms while leveraging GRL Platform Solutions’ production and validation software for manufacturing test applications.
The V-DPWR-EPR also introduces expanded conformance capabilities by supporting USB Power Delivery Functionality Verification Test Cases at no additional cost, optional IEC 62368-1 Functional Safety Testing, and a customized solution for IEC 62680-1-2 EU conformity testing. Together, these capabilities provide manufacturers with a comprehensive platform for validating USB Type-C® DRP products throughout the product development lifecycle—from engineering design and debugging to conformance and mass production.
“With USB-C® becoming mandatory across a growing range of products in the European Union, TIC laboratories need efficient and scalable test solutions for IEC 62680-1-2 conformity assessment,” said Evan Sun, President & CEO of GRL Platform Solutions. “The V-DPWR-EPR is designed to be a practical platform of choice for TIC laboratories, national laboratories, manufacturers, and product certification teams seeking to expand their USB Type-C® and USB Power Delivery conformity-testing capabilities.”
“The V-DPWR-EPR provides TIC laboratories with an integrated platform for IEC 62680-1-2 conformity assessment, supporting USB PD 3.2 EPR up to 240W, source, sink and dual-role power testing, data loopback, and automated test execution,” said Rajaraman Venkatachalam, Chief Product Officer of GRL Platform Solutions. “With optional IEC 62368-1 functional safety testing, the platform enables laboratories to address both USB Type-C® conformity and product-safety validation requirements efficiently.”
Targeted for USB Type-C® Dual Role Power designs—including PD hosts, hubs, docking stations, monitors, chargers and power banks—the V-DPWR-EPR provides the flexibility, performance and scalability needed for modern USB PD testing. Whether used for design debugging, environmental and reliability testing, conformance verification or high-volume production, the V-DPWR-EPR delivers a comprehensive testing solution that keeps pace with the latest USB PD standards.
Disclaimer: V-DPWR-EPR is intended solely for EU (IEC 62680-1-2) conformity assessment testing. It does not provide complete USB-IF compliance testing and cannot be used to claim USB-IF’s EU Conformity and/or full certification. For USB-IF’s EU conformity or full certification, use the USB-IF-approved GRL-C2-EPR and complete the applicable USB-IF program requirements to receive formal notification from USB-IF.
