Essex Veterinary Receptionist Officially One Of The Best In The UK

An Essex veterinary receptionist has beaten competition from hundreds of others across the UK to be named as a finalist for an award honouring the very best in the profession.

Katie Prasser, client care assistant at Cherrydown Vets, was one of just three veterinary receptionists to be shortlisted for the prestigious prize of ‘Veterinary receptionist of the year’ by the British Veterinary Receptionist Association (BVRA).

Nominees are put forward by colleagues and pet owners to recognise their dedication and effort.

Colleagues at Cherrydown Vets – which has surgeries in Basildon, Stanford-le-Hope and Wickford – praised Katie for her “constant positive attitude” in their nominations.

A total of 340 veterinary receptionists were nominated for this year’s prize, which was presented at the BVRA’s annual congress.

Despite ultimately being pipped to the title, Katie said the recognition for her efforts had been heart-warming.

She said: “I have a lot of gratitude towards my colleagues for putting me forward for this award. Even being considered is incredible and I am thankful to the BVRA board/council for choosing me to be in the top three.

“I am proud of myself for getting so far, considering I thought my nomination confirmation email was spam and thought nothing of it until I found out I’d made it into the top five, then the top three!

“I truly believe each of my colleagues also deserves recognition for their hard work – being a veterinary receptionist is a complex role, and not anyone can do what we do!

“I genuinely love my role and it isn’t hard to find the motivation to strive to give the best care I can – helped by all my colleagues in practice who make the day brighter.”

The client care team at Cherrydown Vets recently received further endorsement from the BVRA, which asked lead client care assistant Abbie Wilson to join its council.

Abbie took up the role last month and is looking forward to helping BVRA in its work to recognise and raise the status of veterinary receptionists, both across the country and within the veterinary profession.

Abbie said: “I feel privileged to have been asked by the BVRA team to join their council and become an ambassador and voice for veterinary receptionists everywhere.

“I want to help highlight and emphasise that we are not ‘just receptionists’ and I look forward to the opportunities this role will bring.”
