Carlton Hill scores perfect Considerate Constructor’s Scheme hat-trick

GMI’s Carlton Hill student accommodation scheme in Leeds has scored 45/45 in the latest Considerate Constructor’s Scheme (CCS) Monitor’s Report, meaning it has achieved full marks on three successive visits.

Recording a hat-trick of perfect results, this is a ground-breaking feat in the industry and underlines GMI’s diligent approach to its many live projects.

The £40m purpose-built student accommodation scheme, which is due to be completed in quarter three of 2023, is transforming the Leeds skyline and forms part of a wider regeneration of the north of England.

Roy Perry, Senior Project Manager said: “To maintain a 100% score on three successive visits is a fantastic achievement and is testament to the work of everyone on site at Carlton Hill.

“There is significant focus on encouraging young people into the construction industry, particularly from the surrounding colleges and this has been a key factor in achieving these exemplary scores.

“It is a pleasure to work with such a dedicated team here at Carlton Hill and we’re all very much looking forward to seeing the project reach completion.”

In the report it states that there have been no incidents in the period and the newly appointed Sustainability Manager has been fully immersed in the promotion of the corporate roadmap to achieving net-zero by 2030.

Additionally, the report complemented GMI on its #MenYouAreNotAlone domestic abuse campaign, which saw a professional visit the Carlton Hill site to give a talk to the workforce. Rolled out during the first week of November 2022, the campaign was company-wide and struck a chord with hundreds of colleagues across the business.

Finally, at a time when the SHE team are rolling out the health and safety induction, the report praised the site for its approach to health and safety procedures.

Claire Preston, Head of Responsible Business said: “Carlton Hill is a site that everyone really enjoys working at and the impact that our work has had in the community has been really good to see.

“We were praised for our first-class approach to the local community, in particular, the educational establishments for the promotion of careers in construction through our relationship with the local colleges and universities.

“We will be continuing this approach with a key presence at the National Apprentice Week at the First Direct Arena in Leeds next month.”
