Bridge Health & Wellbeing gives the gift of clean water by sponsoring water pump installation in Africa

Dorset-based Bridge Health & Wellbeing is delighted to have sponsored the installation of a new water pump, bringing life-saving fresh water to the people of Manicaland, a province in the north eastern highlands of Zimbabwe.

Bridge Health & Wellbeing chose AquAid as their water supplier, impressed by their commitment to improving access to clean water. With every water cooler and bottle of water sold, AquAid makes a donation to The Africa Trust. These funds are used to directly build fresh drinking water wells in areas in Africa where it is most needed, like schools and villages. Since 1998, Aquaid has donated over £19 million and helped bring a lifetime supply of clean, fresh drinking water to more than 3.5 million people.

“Running a company focused on health and wellbeing, we are well aware of the benefits of access to clean water,” Paul O’Connell, co-founder and lead physiotherapist at Bridge Health & Wellbeing, said. “Working with Aquaid was a great opportunity to give something back and make a difference.”

Deep underground, there is potable water – even in the Sahara Desert. But reaching it can be problematic. That is why sustainable, practical and cost-effective solutions such as the Elephant Pump are essential. Based on an ancient Chinese design, the Elephant Pump is built from and maintained using materials locally available in remote rural sub-Saharan African communities and supplies vital fresh water to the disadvantaged communities that need it most.

Fern Shaw from AquAid said, “We are extraordinarily grateful to Bridge Health & Wellbeing for their stellar support for this initiative. By using our water coolers, they have helped save the lives of many children in Africa.”

“Water is a vital source of life, influencing all of the essential processes in our body. It optimises kidney and liver function, protects our joints and cartilage, reduces disease risk, improves our mood and helps prevent headaches. It is essential for our staff and our clients – and for all communities around the world. We are incredibly proud to have played a part in bringing that gift of clean water to people in Zimbabwe.” Louise O’Connell, co-founder of Bridge Health & Wellbeing and Pilates teacher, added.
