Research by leading online driver profiling and e-driver training specialist E-Training World reveals that avoiding hitting a third party in the rear has been the top driver training requirement for the past three consecutive years, having been the most popular module again in 2025.
Other highly requested training areas include Parking and Manoeuvring, Speed Awareness and Avoiding Common Collisions.
Hazard Perception remains a high-risk area for drivers, with 38.8% of drivers profiled rated as high risk. By contrast, only 9% of drivers profiled were rated as high risk for Driving Attitude. Hazard Perception is critical to safe driving, as it helps spot ‘clues’ to potential hazards before they arise. This enables drivers to adjust their driving style early to reduce the risk of a collision. Training can be allocated to specifically target this skill area, such as avoiding collisions by anticipating road events.
Overall, 11.6% of drivers profiled were rated as high risk, 67.3% as medium risk, and 21.1% as low risk. Car driver training has been the most in-demand, followed by training for van and HGV users. However, there has been a sharp rise in uptake from commercial vehicle operators who are using online systems to risk assess and train their drivers.
2025 has been a record year for E-Training World, with driver profiling up 43% year on year and the number of e-driver training modules completed up 87%. There are many reasons why drivers drive into the rear of another vehicle, including lack of concentration, following other vehicles too closely, and excessive or inappropriate speed. Roundabouts are common locations for rear-end collisions, as drivers focus too much on traffic already on the roundabout and not enough on the vehicle ahead.
