A popular Leeds cafe has signed a new partnership with one of the city’s best-known supermarket chains as it launches an expanded brunch menu. Aura Cafe, in Roundhay, has agreed a supply deal with Abu Bakr Supermarket, which will provide the meat used across its new brunch and breakfast dishes as the trendy cafe continues its rapid growth.

The collaboration brings together two independently-owned Leeds businesses, with Aura becoming the latest hospitality venue to partner with Abu Bakr for its premium Ayah Halal meat offering.

The new menu features a range of freshly prepared brunch dishes, from hearty breakfasts to steak sandwiches and gourmet chicken burgers, with Abu Bakr supplying the meat for signature items including turkey rashers, chicken sausages, crispy chicken and marbled ribeye steak. Among the standout additions is the Aura Open Ribeye Sandwich, featuring toasted shokupan bread, house cheese sauce, tomatoes, brisket beef bacon and marbled ribeye steak. Customers can also choose from the Aura English Breakfast, complete with eggs, turkey rashers, chicken sausages, hash browns, mushrooms and vine tomatoes, or the indulgent Aura Wild Breakfast, which combines pancakes with maple butter, eggs, turkey rashers, chicken sausages and berries. Other new dishes include the Chicken Royale with crispy chicken, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, the Crispy Royale Chicken Burger, and the vegetarian Avocado, Eggs & Feta served on toasted sourdough.

Aura Cafe says the partnership reflects its commitment to sourcing high-quality ingredients while supporting local businesses.

Aura has quickly become one of Roundhay’s most talked-about cafés since opening, earning a following for its contemporary interior, speciality coffee, desserts and increasingly popular brunch offering.

Abu Bakr Supermarket has grown from a single Leeds store into one of Yorkshire’s largest independent supermarket groups, serving thousands of customers every week across multiple stores and supplying businesses across the region.

Aura says working with Aabu Bakr and Ayah Halal was an important part of developing its new menu.

A spokesperson for Aura Cafe said: “We are incredibly excited to be working with Abu Bakr Supermarket and Ayah Halal. Quality has always been at the heart of everything we serve, and partnering with a respected Leeds business means we can offer customers premium meat across our brunch menu while supporting another local success story.”

The partnership also strengthens Abu Bakr’s growing presence within Leeds’ food and hospitality sector, with the supermarket increasingly supplying restaurants, cafes and food businesses alongside its retail operations.

Hamza Hussain, Managing Director of Abu Bakr Supermarket, said: “Aura Café has created something really special in Roundhay and we’re proud to be supplying the meat for its new brunch menu. It’s great to see two independent Leeds businesses working together to deliver quality food while supporting local businesses.”

The new menu is now available at Aura Café and includes a mix of classic breakfast favourites alongside American-inspired brunch dishes and signature house creations. Aura says the expanded menu has been designed to appeal to families, food lovers and weekend brunch-goers looking for freshly prepared dishes in Roundhay. The partnership marks another milestone for both businesses as they continue to expand their presence across Leeds, showcasing the growing strength of independent local food brands collaborating within the city.

Notes to editors

The story began in 1987, when Abid Hussain, then just 17, took over the family business. With long hours, determination and a hands-on approach, he laid the groundwork for a brand that would go on to become a well-known name across West Yorkshire. A major turning point arrived in 2002. Abid Food Store rebranded as Abu Bakr Supermarkets, signalling both a new identity and an ambition to scale. That same year, the company opened its Queen’s Road store — its first step beyond the original premises and the start of a steady expansion strategy. Further growth followed in 2004 with the Roundhay Road branch, strengthening the brand’s presence in Leeds and giving more families access to its value-driven offering. A decade later, in 2015, Abu Bakr expanded again with its Beeston store, a move that bolstered its community footprint in another busy part of the city. In 2017, the business invested heavily in expanding its product range. Fresh produce, halal meat counters, and an extensive selection of world foods were introduced — a strategic shift that aligned the brand more closely with the needs of the region’s diverse communities and cemented its reputation for global choice at local prices. The company’s momentum continued into the 2020s. In 2022, Abu Bakr Supermarkets opened its Kirkstall branch, bringing its services to a new and vibrant customer base and widening its reach across Leeds. A further store was opened in 2025, in Batley.
