Bloodhound SOS announced today the expansion of its AI-powered evacuation routing technology to include real-time flood hazard layers, in direct response to the devastating flooding crisis in Kerr County, Texas and other parts of the US.
“We have always been able to monitor basic flooding levels, but we’ve now made our AI even more sensitive to issue flash flood advisories,” said Alexa Corbett, Founder, CEO, and Chief Systems Architect of Bloodhound SOS. “The devastating floods in Texas underscore the need to go beyond fire-specific hazards. We’re rapidly integrating flood data sources and refining our AI routing logic so that evacuees can navigate around high-water zones, impassable roads, and dynamic risk areas—much the same way we would for wildfire evacuations.”
Bloodhound SOS’s mobile platform is designed to guide users to safety during emergencies by combining official advisories, environmental data, and community reports into a single, user-friendly map. Its route guidance system leverages layered hazard maps and live pin-drop reporting to identify and avoid dangerous zones.
“Bloodhound’s AI does two key things: it gives users clear, actionable summaries of nearby events, and it proactively issues new alerts by constantly monitoring trusted sources. This means people get both real-time awareness of what’s happening around them and early warning of emerging threats,” said John Razzano, Chief Engineer of Bloodhound SOS.
Bloodhound SOS’s new AI route guidance feature uses layered hazard maps to dynamically reroute users away from danger based on real-time forecast data. Initially developed for wildfire response, the system is now expanding to include advanced flood modeling by integrating:
· National Weather Service advisories
· Local flood alerts
· Community-sourced observations
“Our approach is to layer official advisories, environmental models, and user-reported conditions into a single, live map that can reroute evacuees on the fly,” Corbett explained. “We’re building a tool that doesn’t just tell you where the hazard is, but how to avoid it.”
This expansion represents Bloodhound SOS’s commitment to an all-hazards model of disaster preparedness. By incorporating both fire and flood risks, the platform aims to serve communities facing increasingly severe and overlapping climate-driven threats. “It’s about staying one step ahead in an emergency,” said Razzano, Chief Engineer of Bloodhound SOS.
Bloodhound SOS is actively working with advisors, engineers, and emergency management professionals to accelerate development of the updated flood routing system.
