Portsmouth Gym Teams Up with US CrossFit Community for Transatlantic Charity Challenge, Sponsored by Concept2

Portsmouth, UK – In an exciting test of endurance, CrossFit Choice in Portsmouth, UK, is taking on CrossFit Portsmouth Spartan Kettlebell Club (PSKC) from Portsmouth, USA, in a transatlantic charity challenge this October.

The event, sponsored by Concept2, will unite these two CrossFit communities for an epic virtual race to see which box can rack up the most calories on all erg equipment in 24 hours..

Both gyms completed a similar challenge, where they had to travel distance virtually on the erg machines last year in less than 24 hours. Now they want to repeat it, but make it bigger! The challenge didn’t just raise money and awareness for charity but it brought together two crossfit communities in two separate pockets of the world. It was a great way to introduce many non-members to CrossFit and show them the core value of community and how this really does help you achieve amazing results.

Participants from both sides of the ocean will run, row, ski, and cycle to collectively accumulate as many calories as possible. This friendly competition celebrates not only fitness but the strong bond between two cities thousands of miles apart, both named Portsmouth.

Concept2, a leading name in fitness equipment, has joined as the event sponsor, offering a prize of erg equipment, either a ski, row, or bike erg for the winning gym. Which is a huge incentive for both gyms.

This event is not just about competition; it’s about ‘supporting veterans’. The chosen charities this year are Royal British Legion (UK) and Fifty for the Fallen (USA), both of which provide critical mental health and support services to veterans transitioning to civilian life.

Karl Thorpe, co-owner of CrossFit Choice and serving Royal Navy personnel, said: “This transatlantic challenge is a true celebration of community, fitness, and giving back. It’s incredible to see two gyms, separated by thousands of miles, come together for such an important cause.”

Both CrossFit communities are calling on locals and non-members to join the effort, get involved, and help raise funds for veterans. Whether you’re in Portsmouth, UK, or across the globe, this is your chance to contribute to an inspiring international event that builds bridges between two countries while making a real difference.

Paul Ormston – co-owner of CrossFit Choice, also a serving member of the Royal Navy, added: “This challenge goes beyond fitness, it’s about connecting people and raising awareness for the struggles our veterans face. We’re proud to compete with PSKC in the USA and can’t wait to see the energy from both communities!”

At the CrossFit Choice gym, the competition will start 9am on October 26th and will finish 9am on 27th October. There will be a wellness hub, with our friends Portasauna supplying a sauna and cold plunges to help aid recovery and support the athletes during the event.

The event is for anyone, so if you are available. Pop in to either CrossFit Choice or PSKC and get involved, workout, raise some important money for charity and help your local gym potentially win a new piece of erg equipment too..

Event Highlights:

– Transatlantic Competition – Two CrossFit gyms from Portsmouth, UK, and Portsmouth, USA, covering over 5 million meters.

– Concept2 Sponsorship – The winning gym receives a piece of Concept2 erg equipment.

After the success of ast year’s event, both CrossFit Choice and PSKC want to make this event even bigger, with more people coming to experience the community and dedication of CrossFit.
