The Fringe at Tramlines returns from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 July, bringing hundreds of free performances to venues, pubs, bars, clubs, courtyards, gardens and public spaces across Sheffield. Supported by Sheffield BID and Sheffield City Council, The Fringe once again turns the city into a weekend long stage, running alongside the sold out Tramlines Festival in Hillsborough Park.

With more than 50 venues and spaces taking part, audiences are being encouraged to plan their weekend by starting with the official Fringe at Tramlines site at Welcome to Sheffield.. Highlights this year include the Devonshire Green Main Stage, the reopening of WaterBear Green Room and the first Music + Wellbeing Conversation from Tickets for Good.

The weekend’s main civic stage will be the Devonshire Green Main Stage, which returns with three days of free music and performance. New for 2026, the stage opens on Friday evening for the first time in many years, with a programme curated by Open Decks FC and hosted by award winning broadcaster Dixie.

Across the weekend, the Devonshire Green programme brings together brass, soul, reggae, folk, dance, world music, DJs and community performance, with highlights including Kiziah and the Kings on Saturday and Jungle Lion closing the stage on Sunday. The programme also includes Malachite, Solar Love Society, Tavira, Blue Street Brass, Disco Choir, Chekere Dance, Shanghai Treason, Soul Battalion, Sparkle Sistaz and a special presentation of Jamaican Carifolk Dance from Ripton Lindsey.

One of this year’s key venue stories is the reopening of WaterBear Green Room, following a major refurbishment. Reopened just in time for Tramlines weekend, the venue will host Fringe performances across Friday and Saturday, with acts including Disarray, Harvey Higgins, SHUGACOMA, Hell Yeah Brothers, Poison Dart, Cato, Niall Butchart and Lilly Hill.

The Fringe weekend will also begin with the first Music + Wellbeing Conversation, hosted by Tickets for Good at The Workstation on Friday 24 July from 12pm to 4pm. The event brings together voices from music, research, culture and public life to explore how live music can support wellbeing and strengthen communities. Speakers include Stephanie Pitts, Neil McSweeney, Safiya Saeed, Liam O’Shea, Gérôme Vanherf, and Rick Blaskey, alongside a European panel led by Henk Schuit and a live performance from internationally acclaimed violinist Iskandar Widjaja. Councillor Ben Miskell, Chair of the Economic Development, Skills and Culture Committee at Sheffield City Council, said it was “fantastic to see this much loved festival return to the heart of Sheffield”, highlighting the way The Fringe supports local businesses, creates a vibrant city centre atmosphere and remains “open and accessible to all”. Diane Jarvis, Chief Executive Officer at Sheffield BID, echoed the importance of the event for the city centre economy, saying The Fringe “brings people into the city centre at scale” and “drives footfall for our pubs, bars and venues”, while describing it as “a signature event for the BID” that continues to deliver for local businesses.

First launched by Sheffield BID, Sheffield City Council and Tramlines Festival in 2018, The Fringe at Tramlines was created to bring festival energy into the heart of the city centre during Tramlines weekend. Since then, it has grown into one of Sheffield’s most important summer cultural events, attracting around 40,000 visitors each year and generating an estimated £1.86 million for the city centre economy in its most recent delivery.
