14th April 2023: Local Homebuilder, Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, has announced that the children’s charity Young Lives vs Cancer are the latest winner of their monthly Community Fund for January. The children’s charity will receive a £1,500 donation as part of the initiative.
Young Lives vs Cancer supports children and young people (aged 0-25) and their families following a cancer diagnosis. Their specialist Social Workers provide practical, emotional and financial support to ensure they have whatever they need to get through cancer, this could be a financial grant for a young person struggling to get to hospital for treatment or assistance with the organisation of schoolwork to prevent children from being left behind. They also help with bereavement support, and campaign to raise awareness by championing the voices of children and young people affected by cancer to politicians and policy change makers.
Another way the charity has an impact is through their provision of a place to stay for those undergoing treatment and travelling a long distance from home. Their eleven Homes from Home across the UK are a ‘slippers walk’ away from specialist treatment hospitals and reduce the financial cost and emotional impact of cancer, keeping families together when it matters most.
As the country’s largest homebuilder, Barratt Developments are committed to having a positive impact in their community. Their community fund initiative allows each division to maximise their impact, by varying the local charity they work with each month. Each month, a £1,500 donation is made to the chosen charity. Barratt Developments Yorkshire West’s Community Fund is an initiative which aims to support the communities in which it builds with a different chosen charity each month to receive a £1,500 donation.
Jenny Pointon, Senior Fundraising Engagement Manager for Yorkshire and North Derbyshire at Young Lives vs Cancer said: “We are really grateful to Barratt Developments Yorkshire West for their generous donation. All children and young people dream about their future but having cancer can place huge limitations on a young person’s lifestyle. At Young Lives vs Cancer, we’re working hard to provide in-depth day-to-day support and advice, and to ease the treatment process as much as possible through our Social Workers, financial grants and Homes from Home. Barratt’s donation will help us to further our work, playing a vital role in changing the outcome for children and young people facing cancer.”
Ian Ruthven, Managing Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, commented: “Young Lives vs Cancer does an amazing job offering support to those who need it the most. We are delighted to have them as the winners of our January Community Fund and hope that our donation will have a direct impact on the lives of young children.”
