Williams Support St John Ambulance at Aintree Grand National Festival

BMWs provided by Williams will help support volunteers and their valuable work at the race course and surrounding areas during the busiest racing event of the season.

Williams, the prestige automotive retailer that was founded in 1909 in the region and has been in business in Liverpool since 1954, will be supplying vehicles to St John Ambulance during the course of the Grand National Festival horseracing event at Aintree this month.

A BMW X3 and X7, will be used by St John Ambulance in Merseyside over the duration of the race event to help transport the volunteer team around the site to assist them in their crucial roles providing first aid. The vehicles will be used to carry medical equipment and volunteers over the three days of the event to assist with the health and wellbeing of attendees. The BMW X range is perfectly configured to transport volunteers with up to 7 seats available in the BMW X7. Thanks to the off-road capabilities that the BMW X3 and X7 possess, this will allow the teams to be able to handle all conditions at the racecourse.

In total around 150,000 fans attend the Grand National Festival over its three-day duration from Thursday 13 April to Saturday 15 April, and the main event itself is labelled the world’s most famous steeplechase. It is estimated 10 million people watch the Grand National online and on TV in the UK each year. Globally, the Grand National viewing figures are thought to hit around 500 million. The record crowd numbers mean the two BMWs will need to be strategically placed on the course to gain access to key areas during the busy event and planning is already in place to maximise use of the vehicles.

Darren Timoti, Head of Business at Williams Liverpool said, “Williams has a historic and authentic relationship with the city of Liverpool, having been trading in the city since 1954 when we first opened our doors.  With our historic and innovative automotive retail centre on Great Howard Street we are part of the Merseyside community and were delighted to be asked by St John Ambulance to support their efforts during the prestigious event.  Our prestige, liveried vehicles will stand out in the crowd to help the St John Ambulance team get to their required destinations.  The work they do is invaluable and we are honoured to support them during one of the busiest events in the city’s calendar.”

Added Simon Galley, District Manager for St John Ambulance, Merseyside, “We will have over 300 volunteers over the three-day event undertaking a variety of clinical and support roles including first aiders, doctors, paramedics, nurses, ambulance crews, as well as command and support teams. We are responsible for the care of the jockeys, racecourse staff, and over 150,000 festival attendees. The two BMWs provided by Williams will be critical in ensuring that our teams arrive on site at the event and are transported between their various stations throughout the festival.”
