Walker & Watts appointment set to support capital investment, customer connections and green infrastructure across the Northeast and Yorkshire
Walker & Watts, a leading supplier of engineering services for electricity network operators and tier-one contractors, has been appointed by Northern Powergrid to deliver Lot 1 – Electricity Network Project Engineer & Ancillary Services under framework NPg22002.
The contract will see Walker & Watts provide project engineering, quality assurance, and site supervision across the LV-132kV electricity network, strengthening the delivery of critical infrastructure and resilience upgrades across Northern Powergrid’s Capital Investment, Customer Connections and EHV Green Investment programmes.
By supplying qualified and experienced engineers and technical specialists across the Northeast and Yorkshire, Walker & Watts will play a key role in modernising the region’s electricity distribution network, helping Northern Powergrid connect new renewable generation, electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, and community energy projects while maintaining safe, reliable service for 3.9 million customers.

The appointment covers a comprehensive range of asset classes, including overhead lines, underground cables, substations, SCADA systems, protection, control and instrumentation equipment, telecommunications and associated civil engineering works, with delivery spanning both brownfield and greenfield sites.
Northern Powergrid operates across two licence areas, the Northeast and Yorkshire, serving approximately 3.9 million customers over 25,000 square kilometres. Walker & Watt’s appointment will provide a scalable resource solution to support ongoing infrastructure investment and the delivery of energy transition initiatives across these regions.
