According to the first-ever STEM Skills Index, its aggressive growth strategy and innovation-driven economy signal its potential to challenge top STEM nations in the coming years.
The Index, produced by STEM Workforce Consultancy SThree and the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr), evaluates countries on STEM education quality, workforce readiness, and industry engagement. While the UAE’s STEM education system is still developing, its ambitious engineering projects, AI leadership, and focus on digital transformation are laying the groundwork for a competitive STEM ecosystem.
The UAE ranks 17th in global rankings for Engineering beating the UK (22nd) and USA (24th). The country ranks 19th in the global rankings for Technology ranking ahead of Japan (22nd), France (23rd) and Spain (24th).
“The UAE is not just keeping pace with global tech trends, it’s setting them,” said Hashim Kapadia, Senior Director – MENA at SThree. “With world-class investments in AI, engineering, and space exploration, the country has the potential to become a major STEM hub.”

Compared to established STEM powerhouses such as Switzerland, Germany, and the USA, the UAE is still building its STEM workforce. However, its unmatched investment in AI, space technology, and smart infrastructure sets it apart as one of the fastest-moving STEM economies.
