A leading South Wales law firm has selected a local charity as its charity partner for 2023.
In January, Mooneerams, which specialises in personal injury claims, invited nominations from any Wales-based charity that would like to be considered as the firm’s 2023 charity of the year.
Llantrisant-based 2wish, a charity that provides a professional service for people affected by the sudden and traumatic death of a child or young adult, was selected to become Mooneerams new charity partner for the next twelve months.
2wish was one of five charities shortlisted, after members of the public were invited to nominate following a social media campaign. Over 1700 people sent in nominations for their choice of charity via a dedicated page set up on Mooneerams website with 66 different Welsh charities receiving nominations. A donation of £250 was made to each of the four charities who joined 2wish on the final shortlist.
Established in 2012, 2wish provides support to bereaved families, individuals, witnesses and professionals. The charity recognises that bereavement and loss have no time frame and provides help to anyone affected by the sudden death of a child or young adult. The founder of 2wish is Rhian Mannings, who created the charity in memory of her baby son George and late husband Paul.
George was just one year old when he died suddenly on 22nd February 2012. Paul tragically passed away just five days later.
Cardiff-based Mooneerams first introduced its Charity of the Year initiative last year as part of its 20-year anniversary celebrations. The firm supported Shelter Cymru as its first ever nominated charity of the year.
Mooneerams established its first office in Cardiff in 2002 and now has a network of offices serving a client base spanning the whole of Wales and England.
Mooneerams specialises in personal injury law for road traffic accidents, in public and workplace accidents, clinical negligence and criminal injuries cases negotiating compensation awards ranging from thousands of pounds to settlements of more than a million pounds.
During the past 20 years, the firm has pledged its support to many charitable organisations and individuals at a local level. Following the success of its charity of the year initiative supporting the work of Shelter Cymru, the firm decided to repeat the scheme and pledged to continue its commitment to charity work throughout Wales.
