Simpson Millar bolsters senior leadership team with strategic appointments

Leading consumer law firm Simpson Millar has appointed Helen Melling to the role of Injury Practice Area Director.

A Senior Practice Director with more than 15 years’ experience in the legal sector and a background of leading large scale legal operations, Helen joins the business from Slater and Gordon.

Based out of the Northwest but operating nationally, she will now lead the firm’s expansive Injury division, including its clinical negligence, personal injury, catastrophic injury, industrial disease, travel and military teams.

Helen takes over from Chris Johnson who will leave Simpson Millar this summer to pursue opportunities elsewhere, having made an incredible contribution to the business over the last five years.

Commenting on her new role Helen Melling said: “Simpson Millar has a formidable reputation across the industry as a forward-thinking firm which puts the needs of its own people and its clients at the heart of all that it does. It’s not afraid to make the changes needed to ensure that happens.

The firm has also announced that Partner Nicola Darlington will join the leadership team in the newly created role of Performance Director.

She will be responsible for driving operational excellence, process improvement and promoting performance best practice across the business, as well as working towards the firm’s vision to be the most recommended law firm in England and Wales.

Nicola is joined on the leadership team by Pete Atherton who has been appointed to the role of Data and Business Intelligence Director.

Pete is responsible for capturing data and insights that inform both the tactical and strategic decisions of the firm moving forward, overseeing the firm’s class leading data tools which are used to support the delivery of the best outcomes for customers, and to improve business performance.

A Chartered Manager and an MBA Graduate, Pete has over 20 years’ technical expertise, with experience in the Financial, Insolvency, and Legal sectors.
