Award-winning Nottinghamshire distiller DropWorks Rum is celebrating the successful launch of the first release in a new series of hand-selected, special edition Drops – which sold out in just 48 hours.
Crafted in the heart of Sherwood Forest at DropWorks’ bespoke distillery, and known as Distiller’s Drops, each exclusive Drop in the series is limited to a set number of bottles and will be a unique example of modern British rum drawn from the DropWorks’ barrel store.
The inaugural Distiller’s Drop: English Chestnut Cask, which was launched to the public at the start of November and limited to just 450 bottles, sold out rapidly. The first release in a series that will become highly collectable, this premier drop was matured for 17 months in a rare English Sweet Chestnut cask and delivers a refined yet playful expression of maturation.
Lewis Hayes, Founder and Master Distiller at DropWorks, said: “Since opening our doors in 2023, everything has been building towards this and the launch of Drop 001 has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response.
“Traditionally, rum is aged in oak casks, which add familiar notes of vanilla and coconut thanks to natural lactones in the wood. The English Chestnut wood used for our inaugural Drop creates a nutty, rounded flavour profile, with notes of praline, roasted chestnuts, and warm autumnal tones.
“Our Distiller’s Drops will continue to showcase our ability to craft exceptional rum beyond our core range and if you loved this first one, just wait for what’s next.”
Every exclusive rum is crafted in the DropWorks distillery, the largest of its kind in Europe, nestled in the heart of the Welbeck Estate, in Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.
This latest chapter in redefining rum follows the distillery’s recent successful crowdfunding campaign, which raised almost half a million pounds from 295 supporters.
