Roof Tech Inc. is marking more than 30 years of bringing Japanese roofing engineering to the U.S. solar market, highlighting the company’s history as the first U.S. subsidiary of Yanegiken, a Japanese manufacturer of photovoltaic mounting systems founded in 1968. According to Roof Tech, the company has supported more than 700,000 installations worldwide through its parent organization’s engineering expertise while continuing to develop mounting systems designed to protect long-term roof integrity.
Throughout its history, Roof Tech has focused on developing mounting systems that combine low-profile design with integrated flashing technology. The company says it introduced one of the earliest rail-less mounting approaches for residential rooftop solar and, in 2013, became the first to receive ICC certification for a top-down flexible flashing system, helping establish a benchmark for code-compliant waterproof roof attachments.
Roof Tech says its engineering approach is supported by both laboratory testing and long-term field performance. In addition to third-party evaluations and certification testing, the company points to decades of real-world installations across a wide range of climates and roofing conditions as evidence of the long-term durability of its waterproofing technology.
While the company’s product portfolio has expanded over the years, its core engineering philosophy has remained consistent. Today’s lineup, including RT-MINI II, RT-APEX, RT-PLUS, RT-RAIL, and Roof Tech’s conduit-mount system, extends the same core engineering to a wider range of roof types and installation scenarios, rather than replacing it with a different approach every product cycle.
Looking ahead, Roof Tech expects continued growth in rooftop solar installations, which will increase demand for mounting systems that enhance installation efficiency without compromising long-term roof protection.
