Ribeye named UK’s favourite cut of Steak!

  • England, Scotland, Wales agree on Ribeye as the best.
  • Northern Ireland bucks the trend going with Rump!
  • Experts at The Cut & Craft season the debate with their take, do you agree?

New research has revealed that ribeye is the UK’s favourite cut of steak.

Analysing online search trends, steak connoisseurs at The Cut & Craft found that people in the UK search for ribeye the most, followed by sirloin and then rump.

In 2023, ribeye was searched an average of 33100 a month, sirloin 27100 times, and rump 22200 times.

When we bring England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland into the mix, we start seeing some disagreements.

While people in England, Scotland and Wales prefer the classic ribeye, diners in Northern Ireland opt for rump.

Things switch up when it comes to second place, with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland liking sirloin, but England bucking the trend with T-bone.

When it comes to third, England, Scotland and Wales agree on rump, but Northern Ireland stands alone preferring ribeye.

So, what is the best steak, we posed the question to Darioush Shahidi from The Cut & Craft.

“It’s all about what you want from your cut of steak,” he said.

“Ribeye offers a rich flavour and tenderness due to a good amount of marbling, and when cooked properly can be juicy and succulent. The high-fat content adds to the overall taste and feel in the mouth.

“Rump on the other hand is leaner compared to other cuts, making it a healthier choice. The robust beefy flavour, mixed with a slightly firmer texture, means it’s ideal for roasting, slow cooking, or grilling.

“Sirloin offers a great balanced combination of tenderness and flavour. There’s less fat when compared to ribeye, making it a much leaner choice. It’s that perfect well-rounded option.

“T-bone’s offer the best of both worlds with two cuts in one – tenderness from the tenderloin and rich flavour from the strip loin. It’s ideal for those who enjoy a mix of texture and flavours in one steak.

“When it comes to which steak is the best, ultimately, it all comes down to what you’re fancying for tea that evening.”
