Local Communication Expert Joins Forces to Redefine Retirement for Women
Joanne Parker, a seasoned communication expert, is bringing her expertise and passion to Refirement UK, a pioneering initiative designed to transform women’s retirement experiences.
As an ambassador for Refirement, Joanne is proud to announce the launch of the Empower Vibrant Women Think Tank, an initiative that will foster new opportunities for mature women to remain active, engaged, and impactful in today’s society.
The Think Tank aims to ignite a global conversation about “Refirement”—a forward-thinking approach to life beyond traditional retirement. Unlike conventional views of retirement, Refirement encourages mature women to redefine this stage as a fresh beginning full of purpose and possibility. By collaborating with like-minded groups across the UK, USA, Canada, and Switzerland, Joanne and the Refirement team are setting the stage for change that embraces empowerment, community, and lifelong learning.
Joanne Parker: A Champion for Women’s Continued Impact
A recognised communication leader with over 30 years of experience, Joanne has always been driven to help others make their voices heard. Her involvement in Refirement UK is a natural extension of her mission to support mature women as they carve out impactful “second-act” careers and step into their potential without the traditional limitations associated with age.
“Refirement is about giving mature women a vibrant new vision of the future,” says Joanne. “Together, we’re breaking down barriers and creating a supportive, inspiring community where women are encouraged to continue making meaningful contributions. The Think Tank is our first step toward changing perceptions and providing pathways for mature women to excel in both personal and economic spheres.”
Refirement UK Founder Wendy Garcarz, who delivered a viral TEDx talk on the power of women in business, developed the Refirement UK Manifesto—a comprehensive set of principles aimed at unlocking the economic potential of mature female business owners. Research has shown the impact women can have on the economy; the Rose Report noted that if women started and scaled businesses at the same rate as men, it would add £250 billion to the economy. However, older women are still facing discrimination and ageism when it comes to accessing business bank accounts and funding.
As a founding member and ambassador, Joanne Parker is committed to this mission and advocating for policies supporting mature women entrepreneurs in realising their potential and adding economic value. “The Refirement Manifesto provides a roadmap that empowers women through lifelong learning, economic support, and a network of like-minded individuals. It’s about creating a future where age is celebrated as a strength, not a barrier,” Joanne adds.
Joanne Parker invites local women to join the Refirement movement and contribute to this transformative community. “This is a call to every woman who believes that later life can be fulfilling and influential. We are here to celebrate, support, and elevate each other in our journeys.”
