In recognition of Skin Cancer and Melanoma Awareness Month, Bliss Dermatology + Wellness is rallying the local community to take action against the rising rates of skin cancer through its Skin Check Challenge. Throughout the month of May, individuals are encouraged to schedule their annual skin exams with Bliss’s expert dermatology providers at their Englewood and Venice locations. The practice has set a goal of completing 500 skin checks, welcoming both new and existing patients to participate.
Skin cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, yet it is highly preventable and very treatable when detected early. “Routine skin exams play a critical role in identifying unusual moles or spots before they progress into something more serious, often before any symptoms are noticeable,” said Dr. Michelle Pennie, founder and owner of Bliss Dermatology + Wellness.
Collaborative care plays a vital role in identifying skin cancers sooner and improving patient outcomes. Primary care providers and other healthcare professionals are encouraged to support early detection efforts by referring their patients for annual skin checks.
As part of their ongoing commitment to the community, Bliss Dermatology + Wellness will be hosting a free skin check event for the individuals who tirelessly serve their community including the Englewood Care Clinic, Englewood Chamber of Commerce, Englewood Fire Department, and Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. On May 4th from 4–5 PM, the Englewood office will open its doors to offer complimentary skin checks. This is a drop-in event, and walk-ins will be accepted until 5 PM.
Bliss Dermatology + Wellness aims to inspire proactive habits and raise awareness about the importance of early detection. By making skin health a priority, the practice hopes to empower more individuals to take control of their well-being and potentially save lives.
“We invite everyone in our community to join us in the fight against skin cancer,” added Dr. Pennie. “Schedule your skin check and encourage your friends and family to do the same.”
