PortXchange has joined the SASHA Coalition as its first member focused on port emissions and operational intelligence.
The SASHA Coalition is an industry alliance that brings together companies developing the most sustainable shipping and aviation energy systems, including those based on renewable hydrogen and zero-emission technologies, to advocate for supportive policy.
PortXchange will work with the coalition to ensure that ports have a seat at the table on policy, funding and infrastructure decisions, not a briefing after those decisions are made.
PortXchange maintained that ports are where new fuels are delivered, infrastructure is built and the energy transition either works, or it doesn’t. That piece is too often missing from the conversation.
“Ports’ potential to drive climate action has been largely overlooked,” states Sjoerd de Jager, Managing Director & Co-Founder, PortXchange. “We will not achieve the emissions reductions needed, at the pace required, until all the actors across the value chain collaborate. That is why PortXchange is joining the SASHA Coalition: to bring the port perspective into the conversation and help turn zero-emission ambition into action.
“Cleaner fuels are essential, but producing them is only half the job. The transition has to work when it reaches the port. That means understanding where future demand is likely to emerge, where infrastructure will have the greatest impact and how those investments fit with real port operations.
“Ports are where vessels, fuels, infrastructure, cargo and communities meet. If the port perspective is missing, we risk building an energy transition that looks convincing on paper but struggles in practice.

PortXchange’s EmissionInsider platform gives ports visibility across emissions from ships, trucks, rail and terminal activity. It helps users identify hotspots, evaluate reduction measures, plan infrastructure and turn emissions data into better-informed investment decisions.
That is the gap PortXchange will work with the SASHA Coalition to close. Clean-fuel infrastructure decisions cannot run on ambition alone. They need credible data on vessel activity, operational patterns and where investment will deliver the greatest impact.
“There is a tendency in maritime decarbonization to jump straight to the future fuel and assume the rest will fall into place,” de Jager continued. “It will not. Infrastructure, demand, operational readiness and policy have to move together.
“And while we prepare for tomorrow’s fuels, we cannot ignore today’s emissions. Ports do not have the luxury of waiting for one perfect technology to arrive. They need to understand their emissions now, act on the sources they can influence and make better investment decisions for what comes next. That is the perspective we are bringing to SASHA.”
Through the coalition, PortXchange will push for zero-emission shipping policy that treats ports as active participants in the transition, not simply the places expected to make everyone else’s plans work.
