EDITORIAL INSIGHT: Context, industry insight and market perspectives of this news story

Ostium’s move into construction management and inspection services signals a practical expansion for a business already established in the Western Cape’s residential property sector. By leveraging its background in supplying interior doors and related products, the company is aiming to fill a gap for independent oversight on building projects, an area where smaller developers and homeowners often lack dedicated representation.

For property owners and developers in Cape Town and the Winelands, the addition of project management, quality control, and defects inspection services may offer greater transparency and risk mitigation, particularly in a market where project overruns and handover defects are common concerns. Ostium’s direct experience with local building challenges could make these services relevant for clients seeking more control over cost, timelines, and build quality.

Press Release

Cape Town, South Africa - 13 October 2026

Ostium, the Cape Town and Winelands supplier of interior doors, frames and mouldings, has expanded into construction management. The company now offers three new services for residential property owners and developers: project management, quality and compliance management, and home defects and maintenance inspection.

The expansion follows from the experience of founder Eugene Botha, who has more than 20 years in the building industry. He has managed many building projects across the Western Cape, including projects in Val de Vie, Paarl, and a multi-storey building in Sea Point. Through that work he repeatedly saw the same problems: budgets that grew, programmes that slipped, and defects found only at handover. He also saw that few independent specialists were available to prevent them.

“Owners and developers were carrying the risk on their own projects, with no one on site representing their interests. We built these services to close that gap.” says Botha

Ostium is already putting the new services to work. Botha is currently managing the entire residential build of a large project in Hout Bay, which is still in progress.

Three new services

Construction Project Management. Ostium manages residential new builds, alterations and additions, and developments from concept to handover. It acts as the owner’s independent representative, coordinating the professional team and controlling cost, time and quality. Clients can appoint Ostium for the full project or for individual phases.

Quality and Compliance Management. A single programme and compliance function covers the construction schedule, mandatory quality holding points, the RFI register and Certificates of Compliance. Clients receive weekly reporting and a live progress dashboard.

Home Defects and Maintenance Inspection. Ostium inspects newly completed or recently handed-over homes and provides a photographed, prioritised defect register grouped by trade. Homeowners can submit it to the contractor or developer for rectification.

“Our clients get an independent voice on site,” adds Botha. “We answer to the owner, not the builder, and that changes how problems get raised and resolved.”

The new services sit alongside Ostium’s existing range of precision-manufactured interior doors, frames and mouldings, which supports developers, contractors and architects across Cape Town and the Winelands. Ostium serves private homeowners, developers, investors and body corporates in Greater Cape Town, Stellenbosch and the Cape Winelands.
