Commercial fleet electrification specialist VEV now supports more than 25% of the UK’s electric bus fleet, underlining its growing role in helping operators deliver zero-emission services at scale. The company provides a fully integrated offer spanning fleet strategy, charging infrastructure, energy management and operational support, helping bus operators navigate the increasing complexity of fleet electrification.
Recent projects include the installation of depot charging to support Nottingham City Transport’s growing fleet of electric buses, including six new double deck vehicles that entered service last month. The company has also worked with Stagecoach on the electrification of its Gillmoss depot in Liverpool, having transitioned the operator’s entire electric bus fleet onto VEV’s intelligent charging and energy management platform, VEV IQ.
The milestone reflects a broader shift across the sector as operators move beyond early pilot projects and begin deploying electric vehicles at scale. As fleets grow, attention is increasingly focused on energy management, grid capacity and charging optimisation alongside vehicle procurement.
VEV IQ is designed to help address these challenges by providing operators with real-time visibility and control of vehicles, charging infrastructure and on-site energy assets through a single platform. The company currently supports more than 6,000 electric commercial vehicles across Europe, including over 5,000 in the UK, with bus operators forming a growing share of its customer base as the sector continues its transition to zero-emission transport.
Simon Cubitt, Commercial Director (Bus and Coach) for VEV said: “Reaching the point where VEV is supporting more than a quarter of the UK’s electric bus fleet is a significant milestone, not just for our business but for the industry as a whole. “Operators are moving from individual depot projects to large-scale fleet electrification, and that brings new challenges around infrastructure, energy management and operational performance. “Through projects with operators such as Nottingham City Transport and Stagecoach, we’ve seen first-hand how a joined-up approach to vehicles, charging and energy can help make electrification work at scale.
As the transition gathers pace, our focus remains on helping operators deliver reliable, cost-effective zero-emission services for the communities they serve.”
