Fear Screen and Roxy Movies host a one-night screening and live Q&A of Red Riding, a British horror-thriller with roots in the Northeast
Craig Conway, the North East-born actor and filmmaker best known for his roles in Neil Marshall’s Dog Soldiers and The Descent, will bring his debut feature film Red Riding to Roxy Movies, Middlesbrough on Saturday 18 April 2026, for a charity screening in aid of CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), the UK suicide prevention charity. Red Riding, a morally complex horror-thriller reimagining of the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale, world-premiered at FrightFest Glasgow in March 2026 to strong critical reception. The film stars Victoria Tait alongside Ian Whyte and Robert Cavanah, was produced and shot by Daniel Patrick Vaughn, and executive produced by Neil Marshall. Part of the film was shot in the Northeast of England, the region where Conway grew up and began his career.
Speaking about the personal significance of filming in the region, Conway said: “The Northeast for the first section of the film gave us that truth for free. Filming Red’s original home in the area I grew up in was also a way for me to connect personally on the journey I was actually looking to capture.”
The Middlesbrough screening, hosted by independent horror film festival Fear Screen and supported by Roxy Movies, marks one of the film’s first UK screenings following its festival premiere. Conway and producer-DOP Daniel Patrick Vaughn will attend the event and take part in a live Q&A with the audience following the film.
The evening opens with a selection of short horror films from Northeast-based independent filmmakers, providing a platform for local emerging talent on a proper cinema screen ahead of the main feature. All proceeds from the event will be donated to CALM. Doors open at 6pm. Admission is by donation, with a minimum of £1. The event takes place at Roxy Movies, 9 to 10 Captain Cook Square, Newport Crescent, Middlesbrough, TS1 5UB.
