New Care celebrate National Careers Week

To coincide with National Careers Week (6th – 11th March) New Care is celebrating the achievements and success of Declan Callaghan, a valued employee for five years.

Over the course of his time at New Care, Declan, aged 29, has undertaken a range of roles with the company, successfully furthering his career, making him an exemplary employee.

Declan joined New Care in February 2018 as a senior care assistant at Grosvenor Manor, New Care’s stunning, state-of-the-art care facility in Chester.  He had previously been a senior care assistant for another firm but was attracted to New Care due to its approach to caring for and supporting residents, as well as valuing staff.

Just before Covid, Declan had applied to do an Open University Course in Business Administration, and with lots of study ahead of him, he accepted the role of Head of Hospitality at Grosvenor Manor.  Covid halted his plans to study and during the pandemic, a position at New Care became available in recruitment.

Declan, from Wrexham, says: “My plans all changed with the arrival of Covid and I didn’t end up studying at University.  Instead, I dedicated myself to work and when the role of senior recruitment coordinator arose, I felt that the job description really suited me.  I applied and was thrilled when I was appointed.

“I loved my time working in care and hospitality but I ultimately wanted a different career.  Recruitment allows me to interact with so many people, which I enjoy, and it’s great to see candidates become employees.”

After 10 months as senior recruitment coordinator, Declan’s natural ability to successful recruit suitable individuals became apparent and he was promoted to Recruitment Lead, and now heads up a small team, looking after all of New Care’s 12 care facilities across the UK.

Having worked for New Care for five years, and with further growth plans in the pipeline, Declan adds: “New Care is continually expanding and this year alone the company will open three new care facilities, which means approximately 300 new employees will be required.  My main objective is to achieve smooth openings for each new care home by hiring a multi-skilled staff base.

“I also believe in proactive and mindful teams and want to promote this throughout New Care, highlighting the wellbeing benefits for our residents, but also for our staff.”

Part of the McGoff Group, New Care is one of the UK’s leading care home providers.  Its portfolio of purpose-built ‘new generation’ care centres is fast gaining an enviable reputation for outstanding care that is second to none.
