Multi-service provider invests in future to boost its bids team

A Leeds headquartered multi-service provider is investing in the future, with the hire of two new apprentices to build its bids team.

Servo Group has hired two trainee bid writers, under the National Apprenticeship Scheme to boost, and future-proof its bidding capacity.

Luke Owen, 20, and Georgina Slinger, 18, have started a Level 3 Bid and Proposal Coordinator Apprenticeship with Servo, and training provider JGA. When the 18-month long course is successfully complete, both apprentices will be qualified bid writers, eligible for membership of APMP (Association of Proposal Management Professionals).

The decision to take on apprentices is part of the multi-service provider’s commitment to investing in developing skills and talent for the future as the company enjoys exponential growth. It has successfully nurtured apprentices through its other divisions although this is the first time it has recruited bid and proposal trainees through the scheme.

Laura Bacon, Servo’s Bid Manager said: “We’re sure that Luke and Georgia will be great additions to our team – they’re hugely enthusiastic and professional and are making great strides into learning about the industry already. The on the job experience they will receive alongside the structured training from JGA should give them strong foundations to a flourishing career. At Servo, we’re keen to invest in the development of young talent and have a core commitment to taking on apprentices within various divisions.”

Its commitment to apprentices is part of the multi-service provider’s wider social value plan and learning and development strategy, which also includes sustainability measures such as moving its fleet of vehicles towards being electric and local job creation in several areas where it has won new contracts.

Servo Group has thrived since its inception, just eight years ago, and now employs over 1,200 operatives all around the UK, with more than 40 staff based at its current head office in Leeds.  It works with some major national clients, including Orsted Energy, Network Rail, Buckingham Group and Kier Group.

In the past 12 months, Servo has opened three further regional offices, aside from its Leeds headquarters and it’s targeting a £20 million turnover in the next 12 months.

The multi-service provider, which specialises in security services, CCTV, rail labour and cleaning hopes to continue building on its bids team, as well as growing its sales team with several new hires following the appointment of Group Sales Director, Nina Brooks at the end of last year.

Georgia and Luke, who are both new to the security industry, will complete an 18-month apprenticeship, with an end point assessment when they will be fully-fledged bid writers contributing to the company’s drive to win further high-value contracts.
