From ice-cream vans to mobile break rooms, Dack Vans is creating specialist vehicles from the chassis up.
Automotive sales, hire and servicing provider Dack Motor Group has expanded with the launch of a new venture specialising in the conversion and sale of commercial vans.
Dack Vans has a specialist team of coachbuilders building and modifying vehicles from the chassis up. The team can create a wide range of commercial vehicles including tippers, drop-sides, Luton vans, and vehicles with curtain sliders and tail lifts as well as unique, bespoke creations for any organisation.
Building on bare chassis purchased directly from vehicle manufacturers, Dack’s team of 14 engineers construct around 25 hand-built vehicles each month. As well as vehicles for a range of manufacturing, construction and traffic management uses, the company has also built mobile welfare units with kitchens and break facilities as well as ice cream vans, mobile coffee shops, bars and campervans.
As well as producing specially built vehicles, the company also has a dealership offering a wide range of specialist and commercial vans for sale or hire, offering nationwide delivery. With a growing range of vehicles available, the business is uniquely positioned to meet any company’s fleet and vehicle needs.
Managing director Leo Dack said:
“Getting into commercial vehicles is something that excites us because there’s such a huge range of vehicle types and uses and it really fires our creativity. Just about every business needs a van and we now offer a comprehensive package of van construction, servicing, sales and rentals.
“Offering all of this is a major advantage because it puts us and our customers in control so we’re not beholden to third parties because everything is done in-house by our own team of experienced professionals. We source chassis directly from vehicle manufacturers and then do everything else ourselves which means we can offer a fantastic service doing everything we can for our clients.
“We work on an amazing range of vehicles and clients are amazed by what the team can produce and the outstanding quality of the work. Whether it’s an ice-cream van, mobile barista, highway maintenance vans, campervan, welfare vans, drop-side or tail lift, everything is top-quality, hand-built and made to last.”
Dack Motor Group was founded in Lincoln in 2010 by automotive technician and group MD, Leo Dack. The company now employs 48 people at three sites in Lincoln and Coventry. The new coachbuilding business complements the group’s existing range of services which include vehicle sales and rentals, servicing and repairs and a body shop which launched last year.
While there are a number of other coachbuilders manufacturing specialist vehicles, there are few which also sell their vehicles directly, with the majority building vehicles for a main dealership. This means the Dack group can offer a full after-sales and support service for customers, carrying out additional changes, upgrades or enhancements to suit every client’s needs.
One of Dack Vans’ first clients is mobile cafe franchise, Cafe 2 U. Dack has now built six bespoke, fully electric mobile coffee shops for the franchise and it has also adapted seven other diesel vehicles to electric power. Karen Atkinson, Operations Support Manager at Cafe 2 U said:
“Previously, all our vehicles were diesel vans with generators which powered the coffee machines inside. We’ve moved away from diesel now so all our new vehicles are electric, with 24V batteries for plenty of serving power and time on the road. Having previously used a much smaller coachbuilder, we found out about Dack Vans after one of our baristas struck up a conversation when they were serving coffee near to their garage and I’m really pleased they did because the vehicles they’ve built for us are fantastic.
“The Dack team is really forward-thinking, professional and innovative. They really understand our business and they’re just as passionate about electric power as we are. The vehicles themselves are brilliant, with every inch being put to good use and with the quality of the build matching the premium quality of our coffee.
“From adapting older vehicles to electric power to building brand new, plumbed-in vehicles, the Dack team is helping us to become more sustainable and more reliable, helping us to deliver a more pleasant experience to customers.”
