Montane Partners with Tyne Rivers Conservation Trust to Help Clean Local Rivers

The British clothing specialist, Montane, is helping to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining and protecting local landscapes by partnering with the Tyne Rivers Trust to clean local rivers in the North East.

Montane, with head offices based in Ashington, worked with the local Rivers Trust ahead of World Conservation Day (July 28th), to help to clear the riverbanks in and around Newcastle’s Jesmond Dene, by carefully removing invasive species such as the Himalayan Balsam to ensure the river network can continue to thrive and remain healthy.

Tyne Rivers Trust is an environmental charity that looks after the River Tyne across a 118km area from the North Pennines into Newcastle and Gateshead – working with landowners, farmers, volunteers, and communities along the river and various other waterways to help protect and conserve the varying habitats.

Tyne Rivers Trust is one of many organisations across the country working tirelessly to help preserve the health of rivers and the Trust is continuing to see a rise in illegal sewage being released into waterways. Data has shown that no rivers in England and Northern Ireland are in ‘good health’ and in 2022, raw sewage was pumped into rivers and seas for 1.75 million hours – making them unsuitable for humans as well as destroying the wildlife and habitats that live there.

Annabel Knowles, Community Manager for Montane said: “We were delighted to work with the Tyne Rivers Trust and work in our local area to help clean up and play our part in protecting our local waterways.

“Waterways like the River Tyne are just one of the thousands of miles of habitat in the UK that are in dire straits from things such as sewage, making it vitally important that we support organisations in helping to preserve and protect these habitats so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.”

Montane’s work with the Tyne Rivers Trust forms part of its wider ‘Further. Forever’ ethos, looking to reduce its environmental impact and drive a transparent approach for customers to help protect and preserve the environment for further generations.
