Local housebuilder advises students on careers in construction

Local housebuilder, Persimmon South Coast teamed up with Bitterne Park School & Sixth Form to talk about careers in construction and support the school’s “Futures Fair” and “Big Interview”.

Both events were well supported by range of local employers who were there to help students gain an understanding of all the different career opportunities available to them and the routes into employment.

The Futures Fair showcased a range of different career and employment options for students of all ages while the Big Interview provided a mock interview scenario to give older students experience of what a job interview might be like.

Almost three hundred students participated in the Big Interview and over 1,000 students visited the Futures Fair.

Graeme Cole, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes South Coast said:

“Having recently moved offices into Southampton, we’re delighted to be able to support a local school and educate children about the rewarding careers available in construction. We need more bright, hard-working and ambitious young people to enter the industry and I hope we may have inspired a few students from Bitterne Park School through these events.”

Nancy Austwick, Careers Lead at Bitterne Park School & Sixth Form added:

“We were incredibly grateful to Persimmon South Coast and all of the employers who participated in our careers events. This helps improve our students understanding of all the potential career options available to them while providing real insight into the world of work.”
