A leading outdoor education charity is inviting families to a free day of adventure and fun at their Shropshire centre.
The Field Studies Council has been delivering outdoor education to young people for more than 80 years – and operates 12 centres around the country, including one at Preston Montford near Shrewsbury.
Next month the charity, which helps more than 100,000 learners benefit from outdoor education every year, is hosting a family open day – offering visitors the chance to immerse themselves in wildlife and nature.
Taking place on August 20 from 10am to 5pm, people will be able to explore the site and experience a range of activities from pond dipping, orienteering and bushcraft and climbing.
As well as being a family event, it is also a chance for those in attendance to learn more about educational programmes that are available at the centre, including visits, residential courses, training and opportunities for adult learning.
Jonathan Calcraft, education team leader at the Preston Montford centre, is looking forward to welcoming families for a day of summer fun and is excited to showcase the impactful work that the charity carries out across the country.
He said: “We love putting on events like these because they bring families together, give children a really fun experience, and at the same time we are able to share the experiences and activities we put on with a wider audience.
“Families coming on the day can explore the site and get involved in the numerous activities that are available and maybe try something new for the first time.
“Most of all it is about having a fun day out, but also to see what we do here at the centre and what we have on offer.
“It could be that some of those who do come along for the first time may want to really connect with nature and see it as something they want to explore further in the future.”
Alongside the activities, refreshment stands selling hot dogs, burgers, pizza, tea and cake will be available, with the centre’s shop open for gifts and guides.
Admission is free and those looking to attend are encouraged to book to help organisers plan the event – however visitors are also welcome to just turn up on the day.
