EDITORIAL INSIGHT: Context, industry insight and market perspectives of this news story

Charity partnerships remain a routine part of corporate social responsibility for many professional services firms, particularly within regional business communities. For mfg Solicitors, the decision to focus efforts on a single beneficiary for the year, following a staff vote, reflects a coordinated approach to fundraising and community engagement across its Midlands offices.

While such initiatives are common among law firms, the selection of Birmingham Children’s Hospital brings a focus to a charity with a significant regional and national profile in paediatric care. The move may help consolidate fundraising activity and could encourage greater participation from both staff and local business partners. For the hospital, ongoing support from the corporate sector remains important given the scale of demand for its services and the reliance of many projects on charitable donations.

A leading Midlands law firm has announced Birmingham Children’s Hospital as its charity of the year and will spend the next 12 months raising vital funds for them.

Law firm mfg Solicitors, which has offices in Birmingham and across Worcestershire, Shropshire and the Black Country, will aim to raise a significant sum over the next 12-months for the hospital – in a move which sees the firm taking a different approach in supporting one single charity, rather than each office backing separate local causes.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital was selected following a vote by the firm’s 270 staff. It’s a leading and specialist paediatric centre, delivering some of the most advanced treatments, complex surgical procedures and cutting-edge research to over 100,000 children and young people each year from across the UK and beyond. Every patient and family benefit from the hospital’s charity, which exists to make a real difference to poorly children during difficult times.

Tim Lang, employment law parter at mfg Solicitors who heads up ESG at the firm said: “The team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital does an incredible job every single day supporting ill children and their families.

“It’s an amazing charity which never stands still and is always investing in its facilities, technology and services to improve the care and comfort of every child it supports.

“That’s why it means so much to us to be able to support the hospital over the next year by focusing our fundraising efforts on one charity. We are aiming to raise a lot of money and have already made a start by holding a successful golf day and our AGM raffle. We have a number of events and fundraisers planned over the coming months, including our very popular and now sold-out annual quiz in Birmingham”

Amaan Yasin, Corporate Partnership Officer at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, added: “We aim to provide our children and families with the best treatment and experience we can, but the impact we have relies heavily on our community of supporters to create meaningful change – including donations from local businesses. The team at mfg Solicitors have so many fantastic fundraising plans and we’re incredibly thankful for their efforts.

“I’d like to also thank staff at the firm for voting for us. It means so much to have mfg championing our hospital.”

mfg Solicitors has offices in Birmingham, Kidderminster, Bromsgrove, the Black Country, Worcester, Ludlow and Telford. Further information can be found on www.mfgsolicitors.com.
