The KM Foundation is on a mission to redefine philanthropy—ensuring that money goes where it matters most: directly to the communities in need. With a commitment that around 70% of funds reach frontline delivery, the Foundation is setting a new benchmark in efficiency and measurable impact.

“At the heart of our work is a simple question: what lasting change can we create? We design everything backwards from that end goal,” said founder, entrepreneur and philanthropist Kumar Muthalagappan.

One of the Foundation’s flagship initiatives, in partnership with Orbis UK, is screening 100,000 people in India for eye conditions over three years, with more than 34,500 expected to undergo surgery. The programme goes beyond treatment—it provides outreach, surgery, and recovery, with local hospitals and ophthalmologists at the centre. The aim is not just to treat, but to build a scalable, replicable model that leaves lasting infrastructure behind.

Rejecting the high-overhead culture of many charities, the KM Foundation focuses on lean governance and strong partnerships. It backs organisations that are action-oriented, results-driven, and locally rooted, while ensuring cultural sensitivity and community trust.

“Our role is to bring together the right people, resources, and systems,” added Muthalagappan. “We don’t impose solutions; we support communities to deliver them sustainably.”

The Foundation defines success not only by the number of people served, but also by how many beneficiaries go on to help others—a multiplier effect that turns programmes into movements.

Founded in 2020, the KM Foundation is designed for the long term. Its three trustees—Muthalagappan’s children, each with expertise in healthcare and education—are building a multigenerational legacy of giving that balances integrity, efficiency, and impact.

The Foundation is now actively seeking like-minded organisations and co-investors to join its mission. “Our strength lies in collaboration,” said Kumar Muthalagappan. “We are modest in size, but our leverage comes from creating impactful models that others can adopt. Together, we can multiply impact.”
