Jasmine joins growing North East developer

A North East developer has bolstered its team by appointing a new buyer.

Jasmine Ho, 38, from Birtley, joins Amethyst Homes – which has increased its workforce by three over the past 18 months. Her new role involves responsibility for various aspects around materials purchasing and plant hire on Amethyst’s construction sites.

Jasmine’s interest in construction started when The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) organisation visited her school and she got a flavour for the different job roles available within the industry.

She went on to study Construction Management at Oxford Brookes University and has worked in building and building maintenance ever since – as a contracts manager for a local architectural metalwork contractor and as a buyer with a national house builder.

Richard Bass, Development Director at Amethyst Homes, said: “It is great to welcome Jasmine to the team at an exciting time for our business. With new developments in the pipeline, her expertise will be invaluable. The industry is evolving at a fast pace, with new legislations and outside forces driving developers to be more flexible, adaptable and innovative.  We are confident that we have the right team and skills mix to rise to the challenge.”

Jasmine’s new role will involve producing materials schedules from working drawings, assessing supplier quotations and negotiating, producing and reviewing material budgets for new sites. She will also project and report on material cost increases and produce budget control reports throughout the life of a development.

“I like how every day is different and that challenges can occur from any direction” says Jasmine. “Striking the right balance between the best price, quickest lead time and quality of service raises its own complexities and the role focuses on problem solving, which is something I enjoy.”

“Building good working relationships with colleagues, customers and suppliers – and achieving something as part of an incredible team – also really excites me.”

Established in 2013, Amethyst Homes has built its business around its customers, with a strong emphasis on providing quality, sustainable homes in the communities in which people choose to live and work. To date it has delivered over 450 properties in the North East.

Currently operating across four live sites at Consett, Stillington and South East Northumberland, Amethyst specialises in a wide range of housing from starter homes to family properties and affordable bungalows.

In addition to its home building successes, since the beginning of 2022, Amethyst has trained two apprentices and invested over £3m into local jobs, training and within the supply chain.

Both Regents Park and The Meadows won Premier Guarantee, Quality Recognition Awards in 2021 and 2022, for the high standard of homes delivered.  The Meadows gained further recognition with another Premier Guarantee Quality Recognition Award this year.
