IoT Solutions Group and Taking Care partnership enhances independent living support with life-saving technology

IoT Solutions Group, a UK developer and manufacturer of Internet of Things [IoT] monitoring solutions, and Taking Care, recently announced a partnership to expand the availability of a unique monitoring solution that helps people live safely and independently at home for longer.

IoT Solutions Group’s life-saving DORIS Care technology combines environmental monitoring and smart AI technology. It is now available with Taking Care’s award-winning response service as Taking Care Sense, offering affordable reassurance for vulnerable or older people and their friends and family.

Previously only available to residents through their local authorities, care providers or similar organisation, DORIS Care detects changes in activity patterns that could indicate a fall or illness without any cameras, microphones, or internet connection. With growing concerns around privacy, particularly in the older generation, Taking Care wanted to offer a solution that allayed these fears while supporting people to feel confident living independently.

Simply placed on a kitchen surface, automated alerts are triggered when the device detects changes in daily routines that could indicate a fall or illness without any user interaction. The Taking Care response team will investigate any alerts within four hours via a wellbeing check-in call. The device also alerts to temperature extremes that could indicate a reduction in heating use – a potential sign of fuel poverty.

This latest milestone builds on the growing success of IoTSG’s DORIS Care brand, a trusted solution for over 20 local authorities, housing providers and care teams, having saved four lives for Sutton Council alone in the last 12 months.

Maureen was one Sutton resident whose life was saved when she fell, broke her hip, and could not reach her emergency pendant. The London Ambulance service commented that without this device alerting her care provider that something was wrong, Maureen would not be alive today.

Now offering this solution for the B2C market is Taking Care, a subsidiary of AXA health; the only Which? Approved personal alarm service and the trusted provider of the Age Co Personal Alarm Service. Having provided personal alarm services for over 30 years, their team handles over 25,000 emergency alarm calls each year.

Emma Mahy, CEO and Co-founder of IoT Solutions Group, is delighted with this collaboration, “Partnering with Taking Care, a household name in the personal alarm space, is an exciting milestone for IoT Solutions Group. Knowing that combining our technology and their response service will help so many more vulnerable and older people live at home independently for longer is fantastic. We are exceptionally proud of the product we have developed, but to have this recognised and supported by Taking Care is a credit to the whole team and how hard they have worked on iterating this product into what we have today.”

As the cost of living increases, the population ages, and older people want to stay in their homes for longer, unobtrusive yet innovative monitoring will be vital in empowering people to live independently for longer. Collaboration and adoption of new technology plays a significant role in delivering this independence.
