Intelligent parking firm appoints new customer services director to its Swindon HQ

Transport and parking specialist returns to company he first worked for in 1981

Intelligent parking company Metric Group has welcomed a familiar face back to its Swindon headquarters – its new customer services director first worked for them as a young “temp” 42 years ago.

Starting what he thought would be a temporary summer job aged 19, Ashley Bailey began working with the company, formerly known as Almex, in its factory, building mechanical ticket machines. At the time he was struggling to decide whether to join the Royal Air Force or The Royal Navy, having received offers from both, but ultimately, he chose to do neither and instead approached his boss at the firm to extend his position there.

That led to a long career in the parking and transport sector, in roles ranging from sales to customer support, factory and business unit management. With projects that took him across the globe, one of Ashley’s career highlights whilst at Metric Group, included working closely with Transport for London, providing 1200 roadside bus ticket machines in the early 2000s.

Ashley who lives in the Forest of Dean, has returned to Metric Group to use his unrivalled industry expertise to support the company’s ambitious growth plans and ensure its customers get the very best service. He is also focused on supporting staff in administrative, workshop, engineer, and field service supervisor roles, and developing new processes and strategies for seamless customer communications.

He explained: “The firm gave me my start in the industry, and so it is rather special to return, particularly in a customer services role which I believe is at the very heart of everything we do.

“One of the best things about Metric, is its family feel and it’s nice to see that is still an extremely important part of the company culture. People here care about their colleagues, the company, and their customers and to see everyone looking out for one another is really refreshing. It’s great to be back.”

Metric Group MD Chris Wortley said: “Welcoming Ashley back into the business is a real coup. His expertise in the parking and transport industry is impressive to say the least and the fact that he has experience across every aspect of our business as well as in-depth knowledge of Metric Group and our products and services, make him the perfect fit.”

Headquartered at Westmead Industrial Estate and servicing customers across the world, Metric Group provides design and implementation of parking terminals, electronic pay and display machines, transport infrastructure, back-office payment systems, and electric vehicle charging solutions.
